By DAVID WARDAL-HILLARYAssociated PressFox Sports analyst Bill Barnwell was on hand to give a preview of Monday’s presidential debate when he said the US President Donald Trump’s decision to take a break from campaigning was a big step forward for America.
Trump has been dogged by allegations of sexual assault and abuse since he took office, leading to calls for him to step aside from the race.
He has denied all the allegations, and he’s been making moves to try to heal his image after a tumultuous first six months of his presidency.
In the first presidential debate, Barnwell said the president should be allowed to resume campaigning after a break in his schedule, which included a trip to the United Kingdom and the European Union.
The Republican has been under increasing pressure since Trump announced he was leaving the race in August to focus on his family and campaign for the White House.
Barnwell, who has been on the campaign trail with Trump, praised the president for taking the time to spend with his family during the break.
He also urged the president to keep his campaign promise to make tax cuts for Americans, something Trump has repeatedly said he wants to avoid.
He said the President’s decision was a “big step back” for America and he wanted to give President Trump a chance to rest in his new home, his new golf course in Scotland.
Barnsell also urged Trump to stay focused on his agenda.
Trump’s first week in office has been marred by allegations, including from multiple women, of inappropriate sexual behaviour.
He has denied wrongdoing.
He’s faced an onslaught of negative coverage for his administration, with the Washington Post reporting the White Houses social media accounts have been deleted and Trump aides have faced questions over their ties to Russia.
On Monday, the White house released a list of its top priorities in the first six weeks of the Trump presidency, which is likely to be released as soon as Tuesday.
Barnill said he expected the President to get into the habit of going to the golf course.
